The story that has been the buzz of the chess community since Carlsen abruptly withdrew from the Sinquefield Cup in St. Louis on September 4 after losing to American Niemann.

At the time, Carlsen tweeted cryptically, leading many to infer he thought Niemann had committed a crime.

Niemann acknowledged in an interview that he had previously cheated by utilizing a device to discover the optimum actions as rumors abounded.

But he insisted that the incidences only happened when he was 12 and 16, and he insisted that since then, he hasn't cheated.
